Moments from the tours
Kotor
A picturesque natural scenery surrounds Kotor, a small town in Montenegro. It is one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic coast and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is much to be impressed by in this town, including well-preserved medieval architecture, narrow streets, and amazing views of Boka Bay. Throughout history, Kotor and the rest of the country experienced massive natural disasters that affected the whole country.
One of the most interesting facts about Kotor is that it has a remarkable history of defending itself against invaders. This is due to impressive city walls and fortifications still standing today. This fortification is called the Castle of San Giovanni and offers stunning panoramic views of the city and the Bay of Kotor. It’s located 290 meters above sea level, and getting to the top is not an easy task.
Perast
Perast is a baroque town located on the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro. One of the most famous landmarks in this picturesque town is the Church of St. Nicholas. This church dates back to the 17th century and features beautiful Baroque architecture.
Another important landmark is the Church of Our Lady of the Rocks, built on a man-made island. The island is easily reached with boat trips from Perast. A legend states that fishermen from Perast found a Madonna and Child icon stranded on a rock in 1452 and promised to build an island there in its place. It is said that the construction of Our Lady of the Rocks took 32 years, from 1452 to 1484.
As a symbol of protecting Perast’s maritime heritage, locals throw stones and old boats into the sea as part of the “Fasinada” ceremony. Many of Perast’s residents were sailors and shipbuilders, which made Perast a hub of maritime activity. The town also played a significant role in pirate defense during the 16th and 17th centuries.
